FAQ: Sending PGP Encrypted Email to SimplerCloud

Back

Can I send support request to SimplerCloud in encrypted format?

Yes, you can use PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) encryption to send email which contains sensitive or confidential information to us. For example, you can use PGP to encrypt the content of your email containing the root password of your servelet. By encrypting the email's content, you will ensure that nobody will be able to read the content of the email, except the intended recipient.

How to use PGP encryption?

You will need the PGP software tools for you to encrypt and decrypt email content. For Windows platform, you may want to consider using Gpg4win (GNU Privacy Guard for Windows), which is free and can be downloaded from below URL:

https://www.gpg4win.org/

You would also need to create a PGP keypair, which consist of private key and public key, which is tied to the email address that you will be using to send email to us. This email address should match the email address of your account in SimplerCloud's portal. You may use the Gpg4win software to generate the keypair.

Note that you would need to keep the private key safe, and you should not distribute or reveal the private key to anyone. Make backup of both the private and public keys in a safe place. You would need to send your public key to us, so that we can use the key to decrypt the encrypted email that you sent to us.

To send encyrpted email to us, you would also need to add our PGP public key. You can find our public key below.

What is your PGP public key?

At the moment, we only support PGP encrypted emails for our main inquiries email address: info@simplercloud.com. Below is the PGP public key:

How to decrypt an encyrpted email sent by SimplerCloud?

We don't normally send encrypted email reply to customers, unless if we have confidential information which we need to send to the customer. To decrypt the encyrpted email sent by us, you can copy and paste the encrypted email content to your PGP software tool (e.g. Gpg4win), which will then convert the encrypted email content to normal plain-text (unencrypted) format.

Are there any PGP software tools which integrates into our email clients?

Yes, there are some PGP sofware tools which integrates into email clients such as Thunderbird or Gmail so that we don't have to copy and paste manually to encrypt or decrypt email content. For Mozilla Thunderbird email client, we would recommend Enigmail add-on for Thunderbird, which you can download at below URL:

https://www.enigmail.net/index.php/en/

If you are using Gmail, you may want to use the Mailvelope Chrome add-on, which will seamlessly allow you to encrypt and decrypt emails while accessing your Gmail using a Chrome web browser.
